Automotive Industry Stillages and Cages

Automotive Industry

Lowe Stillages and Cages have gained extensive experience working in the Car Industry, we worked very closely with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Ltd when they set up their plant up at Burnaston outside of Derby.  Lowe worked on all departments i.e. Assembly 1 and Paint, Plastics, Press and Weld. We manufacture many different products for the Automotive Industry, for example; Paint Jigs, Lineside Equipment, Blanking Pallets, Jigs and Fixtures.

Stillages manufactured for the car industry are design, price and quality led. With this in mind, here at Lowe Stillages and Cages we understand the importance of cost and budgetary control, the suitability of design of the stillages and quality control. The Client will provide clear specifications of their requirements, Lowe will then provide a technical review of the suitability of the design and all the relevant documentation that conform to these specifications, for example; test plans, reports, quality information, Inspection and weld/paint procedures.

Important Issues specific to Automotive Stillages are as followed:

  • The quality grade of the Materials used in the manufacture of stillages.
  • The attachments used to lift and move the stillages around and the safety around these appliances making sure they conform with Loler.
  • Traceability of labor and materials, CE accreditation.
  • Testing procedures to include Dye Pen, Load Test and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Which standards will Lowe use during; design, build and testing?
  • The stillage will require some form of ID label; Drawing No’ and TARE / Working Load Limit.
  • Serial Numbers against the Batch and PO reference.
  • Welder and NDE Qualifications and approval.

Here at Lowe Stillages and Cages we have extensive expertise in working in a Cost, Safety and Quality driven environment. With many of years working with Toyota Motor Manufacturing, we have extensive experience in Japanese Production methods, explanation of Toyota Motor Manufacturing TPS are as followed; (Source Toyota.com).

Just-in-Time

Improving productivity

Producing quality products efficiently through the complete elimination of waste, inconsistencies, and unreasonable requirements on the production line (known respectively in Japanese as muda, mura, muri).

The Toyota spirit of monozukuri (making things) is today referred to as the “Toyota Way.” It has been adopted not only by companies in Japan and within the automotive industry, but in production activities worldwide, and continues to evolve globally.

Via the philosophies of “Daily Improvements” and “Good Thinking, Good Products, TPS has evolved into a world-renowned production system. Even today, all Toyota production divisions are making improvements to TPS day-and-night to ensure its continued evolution.

The Toyota Production System (TPS), which is based on the philosophy of the complete elimination of all waste in pursuit of the most efficient methods, has roots tracing back to Sakichi Toyoda’s automatic loom. TPS has evolved through many years of trial and error to improve efficiency based on the Just-in-Time concept developed by Kiichiro Toyoda, the founder (and second president) of Toyota Motor Corporation.

Kiichiro Toyoda, who inherited this philosophy, set out to realize his belief that “the ideal conditions for making things are created when machines, facilities, and people work together to add value without generating any waste.” He conceived methodologies and techniques for eliminating waste between operations, between both lines and processes. The result was the Just-in-Time method.

Waste can manifest as excess inventory, extraneous processing steps, and defective products, among other instances. All these “waste” elements intertwine with each other to create more waste, eventually impacting the management of the corporation itself.

All of these principles are now widely used by British Manufactures and Lowe have over 25 years experience in this field of production, if you would like advice on any part of your production process, Lowe Stillages and Cages can provide a solution utilising the very best of Japanese Production Methods, to save you time and money.
